National Endowment for the Humanities

Public Humanities program supports projects for general audiences through public programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history.

Wish You Well Foundation

Supports nonprofits that teach adults the literacy skills they need to communicate, grow, and thrive within their communities. Focus on fostering new and promoting existing adult literacy and educational programs.

ProLiteracy

Through its Literacy Opportunity Fund, supports nonprofits doing direct work with adult students. Funded by the Nora Roberts Foundation; grants awarded quarterly.

Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation

Supports nonprofits for which a relatively small amount of funding might make a large difference. The Foundation supports museums, cultural and performing arts programs; schools and hospitals; educational and skills-training programs; and other community-based organizations and programs.
